Some of us have the fun or difficult challenge of raising our plant babies with curious fur babies. Cats are naturally curious but we can all learn to live symbiotically. Cat grass is a great treat to grow for those adorable cats that need their own plants.

Before you bring a new plant into your home, it is important to consider your furry friends and how they might react to having a new plant in the house. Cats are very curious creatures, and if you’re not careful, your brand-new plant might just become lunch for your kitty! If you have a cat that has a bad habit of snacking on your plants, make sure you identify the type of plant you’re introducing to your home before you bring it indoors. Many plants can have adverse effects on our pets when ingested, so unless you know for sure your plant is “cat safe”, be sure to place the plant out of reach of your pet. You should consider trying to grow cat grass, cat mint, or cat nip to deter your cat from eating your houseplants. Let’s keep our furry friends safe! 😺❤️ 📷: Shannon Hill, Horticulturist #SmithsonianGardens #CatDay #CatGrass #Cat #Plants #Horticulture #IndoorPlants #CatMint #CatNip #HousePlants #NationalCatDay
