These are three of my favorite DIY projects to do at home!

Macrame plant hanger:

What materials do I need?

  • Yarn or twine
  • Scissors
  • Potted houseplant
  • Measuring tool
macrame plant hanger - materials

How do I make it?

  1. Cut 8 pieces of yarn, make sure they are all the same size. Mine were about 3 feet long.
  2. Tie a knot near one end with all 8 pieces of string. Then, separate the yarn into 4 groupings of 2 strands of yarn each.
  3. Center the knot in the middle of the pot then, make a knot in each grouping at the base of the pot. All the knots should be the same length.
  4. Take the left strand from each grouping, and tie it to the right strand of the next grouping. Tie the knots lengthwise around the middle of the pot! Repeat this three more times around the pot.
  5. Tie one more round of knots, repeating the process of knotting the left strand of each grouping to the right strand of the next. Make the knots near the top of the pot.
  6. Place your potted houseplant in the plant hanger.
  7. You want to tie all the yarn strands into a knot above the plant leaving a bit of space above this knot.
  8. Finally, tie a second knot around a curtain rod, or brass ring to secure the plant hanger.
  9. You’re all done! To water your plant, gently lift the pot outside of the plant hanger then place it back once you’re done with watering.

Rock plant markers:

What materials do I need?

  • Rocks
  • Paint
  • Paint brushes

How do I make it?

  1. Find some rocks that are large enough to write on
  2. This is the fun part, you can paint the rocks however you want. This is a great DIY for kids to participate in!
  3. Once you’ve painted the rock, let it dry and then write the name of the plants or vegetables, and repeat for every one of your plants.

Plant stand:

What materials do I need?

  • You’ll need two 2×2 wood boards that are 11 inches for the supports
  • Then you’ll need four 4 1×2 wood boards that are 14 inches for the legs
  • Two 1 ¼ inches wood screws
  • And eight 2 inch pocket hole screws

How do I make it?

  1. The first step is to notch the supports. Mark a 1 ½ inch wide x ¾ inch deep notch at the center of both supports. Cut out using a bandsaw or jigsaw. Pre-drill pocket holes note pocket holes are on opposite sides of the support pieces.
  2. Then you want to create the base by fitting the notched supports together. Secure using wood glue and 1 ¼ inch countersunk wood screws.
  3. Attach the legs. Mark the legs at 5 ½ inches then use wood glue and 2 inch pocket hole screws to attach the legs.
  4. Then you can sand the legs and add a wood stain or you can paint the plant stand if desired! This plant stand can hold a plant that is 12 inches in diameter and 9 ½ inches tall.
Have fun recreating these DIY projects at home!
